'Splitting The Tongues Of Man'

Diseased Earth, a ferocious death sludge band from Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, continues to push the boundaries of heavy metal. I previously reviewed their album "Welcome The Plague Years," and they found a nice place within groovy doom and sludge metal - you can READ IT HERE

The latest single from Diseased Earth, "Splitting The Tongues Of Man," kicks in with some monstrous guitar riffing while the drums march on with double bass well placed. The vocals add a thick layer of aggression throughout, and the cream on top is the lead guitar that kicks in nearly a minute later. I'm actually getting a Bolt Thrower type feeling from the whole song, just how it carries itself throughout.

Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Todd Glidewell at Scoville Sound Studios, the production quality moves this up a few more notches. This track marks a significant moment for the band as it features their new drummer, Damian, for the first time. If this is what he brings to the table, we should all be excited about future releases. Damian's drumming is a relentless force, driving the song forward with precision and power. It's like being bludgeoned by a musical sledgehammer.

The song breaks down into sludgy goodness around the two-minute mark with higher-pitched screams before hitting into a solo that gets more and more bluesy as it progresses. Picture a sludge metal blues bar with the bartender pouring riffs instead of drinks. The snare slams us into submission as we hit into the outro, with the guitar feedback leaving us wanting more.
